Okay, you want to do a new car comparison. Well, it is important to do an apples to apples search. By that I mean that you should be comparing similar vehicles rather than looking all over the map. Narrow down the type of vehicle you are looking for and then make a new car comparison based on that kind of car.

For instance, the Volkswagen Golf, Dodge Caliber, Kia Soul Exclaim, and Mazda 3S Sport are all around the same price – $17,000 to $19,000. While they are largely similar cars, they differ in some respects. For instance, the Golf has a 2.5 liter engine while the Kia and the Mazda have only 2 liter engines. The Exclaim Soul and the Sport also have significantly lower displacement. The Kia doesn\’t have front side airbags while the other three vehicles do.

At the other end of the spectrum, you also see similarities and differences between cars. For instance, the Rolls Royce Ghost and the Mercedes Benz S-Class are very similar cars. Very similar in many ways except for price. The Ghost starts at $245,000 while the opening bid on the S-Class is just $133,000. So, if you are not worried about the cache of driving a Rolls Royce, the S-Class could be a bargain.

Let\’s now take a look at four vehicles in the SUV market: the Kia Sportage, Suzuki Sportback, Nissan Rogue, and Mitsubishi Outlander. These SUVs range from $19,000 to $22,000. Some of the difference can be seen in the horsepower in each vehicle. For instance, the Sportage has only a 140 horsepower while the Rogue has 170. Another difference is the highway miles to the gallon with the Sportage coming in last at 25 mpg while the Sportback leads the pack at 30.

When you do a new car comparison, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. A Mini Cooper is not in the same class as a minivan and shouldn\’t be treated as such.
